A perfect weekend for stargazing

Posted Friday, May 23rd 2014 @ 8pm

(Cleveland)- We're expecting some beautiful clear skies all weekend and comfortable temperatures, and that makes it a perfect weekend for stargazing.

Cleveland State University astronomer Jay Reynolds says Jupiter is visible in the southwest skies for about two more weeks.  With binoculars, or a telescope, you can see several of Jupiter's 67 moons.

Also visible above Jupiter, and slightly to the right, two little stars form the Gemini (Twins) constellation.

After sunset, Mars can be seen in the southern sky.  It has what Reynolds terms an "angry" shade of red-orange.

With a telescope, you can see polar ice caps on the "Red Planet".
