Honor relatives on Memorial Day by looking up their service record

Posted Friday, May 23rd 2014 @ 4am

(Cleveland) - Memorial Day, which is observed on the last Monday of May, commemorates the men and women who died while in military service. In observance of the holiday, many people visit cemeteries and memorials, and volunteers often place American flags on each grave site at national cemeteries.

With more and more veterans dying everyday and many of them not sharing their stories the national archives is a great free resource for next of kin to get their loved-ones military records. You can request them on line or by mail or fax. Many of the records include detailed information about where your loved one served and often a picture.

The records are often sent to you within 30 days.
