Indictments in the deadly CPD chase

(Cleveland) - A Cuyahoga County Grand Jury has handed up indictments to a Cleveland Police Officer and five supervisors stemming from the deadly high speed chase in November, 2012.

Officer Michael Brelo is charged with two counts of manslaughter in the deaths of Timothy Russell and Malissa Williams.

Russell led Cleveland Police on a high speed chase from downtown Cleveland into East Cleveland where the chase came to an end.

Cuyahoga County Prosecutor Tim McGinty says Officer Brelo fired 49 shots after the chase came to an end.

Mayor Frank Jackson says Brelo will be suspended without pay until the outcome of the case against him..

The supervisors indicted all face charges of dereliction of duty.  McGinty says they ignored department policy to conduct chases in a manner that shows 'due regard for the safety of the public'.

Russell and Williams were killed in a hail of gunfire as 137 rounds were fired into Russell's vehicle.
