(Cuyahoga County) - Cleveland Police say they made 144 arrests in a 6 month drug crackdown in the city's 5th District.

Deputy Chief Wayne Drummond reports 24 guns were seized in this operation, $130,000 dollars in cash was confiscated, along with 20 ounces of heroin.

He explained that the areas around I-90 along East 185th and East 200th Streets were targeted because of complaints from residents.

Drummond says officers observed a wide variety of drug sales with some suspects using their drugs right after purchase.

Cleveland Police Commander Dennis Hill says, due to the heroin epidemic, the northeast part of town is becoming a one stop shop for suburbanites trying to get a fix.

Hill says of 144 suspects nabbed during the drug sweep, 44 were from other cities. Some from as far away as Madison, Chesterland, Independence, Lakewood, and Seven Hills.

Drummond says similar drug sweeps are being conducted in other Cleveland Police districts.
