Check out photos from the ribbon cutting.(Cuyahoga County) - At one point, voters turned down a proposal to build a highway linking Crocker Road in Westlake to Stearns Road in North Olmstead.
But Thursday the ribbon was cut opening the $26 million Crocker Road/Stearns Road extension. The mayors of North Olmstead and Westlake cut the ribbon on the extension at the border of the two western Cuyahoga County suburbs.
The Crocker/Stearns extension will provide motorists with quick access to Interstate 90 to the north and Interstate 480 to the south. Both cities hope the extension will also spark an economic boost to the area.
The Crocker/Stearns extension has been debated since 1960, finally voters approved the project funded with local and federal dollars.
North Olmstead Mayor Thomas O'Grady and Westlake Mayor Dennis Clough cut the ribbon saying the extension will not only offer a direct route to I-90 and I-40, it will eliminate traffic congestion on side streets and other roads.
