10 movies in one-by 11 directors. A love letter to New York.
When you have 11 directors shooting 10 mini movies dealing with love in NYC, what you get is a mosaic that mostly works but sometimes not. It’s hit or miss. Here’s the concept: the directors had 2 days to create their vignettes. Among them: Natalie Portman, who also stars and Brett Ratner.
Among the writers: Natalie Portman; Scarlett Johansson; Anthony Minghella and the playwright Israel Horovitz (who’s also the Dad to Beastie Boy Ad-Rock). The impressive list of actors: Bradley Cooper (again!?); Julie Christie with Shia LaBeouf (in a stunning story); Cloris Leachman & Eli Wallach (in one of the funniest segments); Robin Wright Penn & Chris Cooper (I guessed their surprise); Ethan Hawke with Maggie Q (a great hustle story!); Anton Yelchin with Olivia Thirlby (in a twisted hustle); Drea De Matteo; Blake Lively; Christina Ricci; Orlando Bloom and Hayden Christensen.
The best part- if you don’t like one story- it’s over before you know it and you’re onto the next. Like grazing at a buffet.
