The Nook holds about 1,500 books and includes a slot for a MicroSD card that can bump storage capacity to 16 gigabytes, a system that allows a reader to store 17,000 titles, PC World reported Wednesday.
The electronic reader supports PDF, FictionWise and ePub formats, but is banking on ePub as "the most portable format," Barnes & Noble.com President William Lynch said.
"Our customers want any book, anytime, anyplace," he said.
For Nook owners lending books on a time-limited basis is a possibility. "Friends can do what they have always done, which is lend each their books," Lynch said.
