Cleveland TV legend dies

Paige Palmer hosted popular women's show.

(Cleveland) - Former Channel 5 TV star Paige Palmer passed away in her sleep early Saturday morning. She was 93 years old.

Palmer was known as Cleveland's exercise guru and hosted a popular fitness show on WEWS for more than 2 decades. She was born and raised in Akron.

She joined the station in 1948, not long after it signed on the air. The Paige Palmer show ended in 1973 when she developed an inner-ear ailment that cause vertigo.



Palmer often had nationally known guests on her program, and was the first to do makeovers on television, to promote healthy eating, and exercise for pregnant women.

Palmer has written numerous travel guides, and was the first person in the world to interview the Dalai Lama after he came out of Tibet.

She also designed exercise equipment and fashions for women.

Palmer was honored by the United States Congress for her efforts in "improving the quality of life for American Women." This honor was recorded in the Congressional Record.

Palmer was inducted into the Ohio Women's Hall of Fame in 2000.
