(Cleveland)- 200 turkeys are being delivered to Cuyahoga County Juvenile Court Monday afternoon as part of Judge Peter Sikora's 14th annual frozen turkey collection.
Instead of having minor offenders paying a fine they are asked to bring in some frozen turkeys. The turkeys are given to the Salvation Army's “Feed a Family” program and other charitable organizations.
Sikora says, this is more personal than paying a fine. The kids have to make the effort to go to the store, buy turkeys, get them to the court, and they are part of something bigger then themselves.
Judge Sikora's turkey project is two fold: it teaches kids they must be accountable for their actions and it haves them do something positive for those in the community who are less fortunate.
