(Cleveland)- Dozens of blood collection workers and mobile unit assistants for the American Red Cross in Northern Ohio are in front of the Red Cross building on Euclid Avenue holding signs that say "Red Cross Unfair. Tainted with Greed."

They're part of more than 200 workers represented by Teamsters Local 507 in Cleveland on strike as of Tuesday morning upset about staffing cuts, and they want a better health care plan.

Safeyyah Edwards, a 10-year blood collection instructor at the Red Cross tells Newsradio WTAM 1100 many blood collectors are working 14-16 hours a day. "How can you expect a person to work those many hours without taking a lunch or break? And then when we make a mistake, which is not intentional, we get disciplined for it," says Edwards.

Red Cross spokeswoman Christy Sabaka says they offered union workers the same health care benefits that non union workers get but union members want to get their own plan.

16 other unions across the country have reached successful resolutions with the organization since last July.

Sabaka adds they hope to come to a resolution as soon as possible to get back to the business of saving lives.

The strike cancelled the largest blood drive in Northeast Ohio. The blood drive at Landerhaven Executive Caterers usually brings in 800 pints of blood says Sabaka.

The Red Cross is working on plans to hold other blood drives so donors can continue to give. If you're interested in donating blood please call 1-800-red-cross or go online to http://www.redcrossblood.org/.
