(Marquette, Michigan) - A Republican Party official from Northern Michigan has resigned his position after receiving death threats for suggesting the solution to student undrest would be "another Kent State."
Dan Adamini, secretary of the Marquette County Republican Party, tells The Detroit News he hopes his resignation will satisfy those outraged by his statement, and he now says social media was not the right venue to share his thoughts.
He told the paper, "I stepped aside so hopefully the people are so angry will feel that they've accomplisehd what they set out to do, and maybe we can all get on with our lives."
Adamini says his tweet was "horribly worded" and that in no way was he calling for police to shoot protestors, as was done by the Ohio National Guard at Kent State.
Officials of Kent State called the tweet hateful and unnecessary. On May 4, 1970, National Guard troops killed four students and wounded nine others during an anti-war demonstration.
