Bridgestone Makes Commitment To Akron; Will Build New Race Tire Plant

(Akron) - Brigestone Americas is committing itself to Akron, by announcing on Wednesday that it would build in Akron a new, state-of-the-art facility to manufacture tires for the NTT IndyCar Series, including the Indianapolis 500.

Bridgestone also announced that its contract to have its Firestone brand as the exclusive tire supplier for the NTT IndyCar Series, will be extended through 2025. Those tires will be made in Akron.

Currently, Bridgestone makes Firestone racing tires in the Bridgestone Advance Technology Workshop, which is part of the former Firestone Tire headquarters, and is leased from the city of Akron. The new plant will be across the street from the Technical Center.
