Shaker Square renovation plans revealed

(Cuyahoga County) - The public got its first look today at efforts to revamp Shaker Square.

Planners unveiled four proposals to create an urban park, including two proposals that would also remove Shaker Boulevard from the Square's center.

Organizers want to open up the Square to the surrounding community to increase connectivity and economic development. So far there's no cost estimate for the project, which may not become reality until around 2024.

For nearly 100 years Shaker Square has primarily served as a stop on the city's Rapid Transit system.

The plans were open for public comment Wednesday afternoon at the Shaker Heights Library where a capacity crowd attended a 2 hour open meeting about the project. There was also an evening session at Our Lady of Peace Church.

Thursday morning there is a public meeting at 8am, at the North Union Farmers Market.
