Firefighter Who Died From COVID-19 Remembered

(Cleveland) - Mourners gathered Tuesday at Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church on Rocky River Drive to remember Cleveland Fire Lieutenant Richard Petras, who died August 10 of complications from COVID-19

In the homily, Father Doug Brown, chaplain for the Cleveland Division of Fire, said Petras was a firefighter through and through, who "truly lived from others...he didn't run from danger, he ran toward it."

Petras had been with Cleveland Fire for 26 years, most of his career in the Glenville neighborhood, but recently transferred to the Fire Academy. He was promoted to Lieutenant in July, 2020. He was 51 years old, and leaves behind a wife and two daughters.
