Woman Accused Of Packing Heat At Crocker Park

(Westlake) - An Akron woman is facing charges in Westlake, after police say she threatened someone at Crocker Park with a handgun, and led police on a chase along I-90.

About 9:15 p.m. Saturday, Westlake Police received a call from Crocker Park security that they had several complaitns about a woman walking around the shopping center with a handgun (see photo below). There was one report the woman had pointed the gun at a person near the Hyatt Hotel and made verbal threats.

Westlake Police arrived just in time to see the woman and two other people drive off in a Cadillac Escalade SUV. Police tried to stop the SUV, which was driven eastbound on I-90. Westlake Police put down stop sticks to flatten the SUV's tires, and it was finally stopped on South Marginal Road at West 140th in Cleveland.

Police recovered the handgun. The vehicle's driver a 33-year-old woman from Akron, was determined to be the one with the gun at Crocker Park. She tested over the legal limit for OVI, and also had a suspended license. She is charged with felony fleeing, aggravated menacing, improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle, OVI, driving under suspension, and using a weapon while intoxicated.

A 30-year-old Cleveland woman in the SUV was charged with disorderly conduct while intoxicated. A 28-year-old man was released without charges.

Nobody was injured in this incident, and no shots were fired.
