Today is the 50th anniversary of Secretariat's famous win at Churchill Downs. The champion thoroughbred won the Kentucky Derby exactly half a century ago on May 5th, 1973. He completed the one-and-a-quarter mile race in a time of one minute and fifty-nine-point-four seconds, a record that stands to this day. That race also saw the then-biggest crowd in North American racing history at over 134-thousand people.
