Connecticut Man Found $5,000 In A Bag - Arrested For Not Turning It In

Robert Withington, 56 of Trumbull, was charged on August 25 with third-degree larceny and was released on a promise to appear in court on September 5, 2023 after finding an unattended bag of cash containing nearly $5,000 in the parking lot near a bank in Trumbull, Connecticut. Withington, claims he looked around, didn't see anyone, and took the money describing the situation as feeling like he'd hit the lottery. The money actually belonged to the city of Trumbull, and when town's tax collector office was unable to find the deposit bag and investigation took place. 3 months later they were able to find Withington on surveillance picking up the cash and charged him with 3rd degree larceny.
