A rather quiet day here in Berea as the Browns are rounding third and headed home on this year’s training camp schedule.
-Soon to be owner Jimmy Haslam III watched practice today as said at his introductory press conference that he plans on sitting in the stands instead of the owner’s box during the Eagles game.
During the practice this morning Haslam talked with Mike Holmgren as well as Tom Heckert as he watched the team prepare for the Eagles.
-Same guys that have missed practice recently continued to miss practice except John Hughes who returned after sitting out Monday’s practice. Same with defensive end Juqua Parker who returned as well.
-Ben Watson was dressed but remained out of team drills.
-Colt McCoy spoke with the media today and he refused to say that he wants out of Cleveland. “My point in saying that is I got drafted here. I’ve spent a lot of time here. I feel comfortable with what we’re doing. I love my teammates. I love this organization. I love this city. We’ve been through a lot of ups and downs and I’m a Cleveland Brown.
That’s what I am. I come out here every day and I compete. I work hard. I challenge myself, and if I don’t get as many reps, I’ll go inside and watch tape and get some mental reps and study the game. I’m continuing to compete and continuing to work hard. That’s all I can do right now. I’m a Cleveland Brown and proud to be one. “
-When asked if he has changed any of his preparation here is answer “I think the reps are a little different, but I don’t approach practice, or I don’t approach games or I don’t approach meetings any differently. I really will continue to do the same thing, which is to prepare, work and study.
If I don’t get as many [reps] out here, I’ll grab a couple of guys after practice and throw some routes that maybe I didn’t get to throw in practice. I just continue to stay on top of my game and work to get better, which I feel like this offseason and this training camp I’ve gotten a lot better, and I think most guys can say the same thing.”
-Coach Shurmur was asked if he will limit Brandon Weeden’s reps on Friday after seeing Mike Vick go down early in the Eagles game Monday evening. “Each team is different. Each game is different. I understand exactly why each team did what they did last night. The Patriots chose to make their big amount of work for their ones here coming up against Tampa Bay.
I understand why Philadelphia did what they did based on who their first opponent is, and then the shortness in time between a Monday game and a Friday game. That’s for them to decide. I’ve got a little different scenario, we have time between the games, and it’s important that I think our guys get their work. We all pretty much in the fourth preseason game become very cautious when it comes to injuries.”
- The team will have its final open to the public practice on Wednesday starting at 8:45.
