(CLEVELAND) -- Multiple reports and sources with knowledge of the situation have confirmed that the Indians will sign free agent infielder Mark Reynolds.
The reported one-year deal worth $6 million is pending a physical.
Reynolds, 29, spent last the last two seasons with the Baltimore Orioles playing third base, first base and DH. The right-handed hitter hit 37 home runs in 2011 and 23 home runs in 2012.
The Indians were in talks with Reynolds at the MLB winter meetings in Nashville last week, Reynolds hit 44 home runs in 2009 with the Arizona Diamondbacks and will pose a middle of the order power-hitting presence however he has been known to strike out a lot. Last season Reynolds struck out 159 times, in 2011 he struck out 196 times.
According to multiple reports the Indians had offered free agent infielder Kevin Youkilis a two-year deal worth $18 million. The New York Yankees offered Youkilis a one-year deal worth $12 million. As of Sunday night no announcement had been made on Youkilis.
The Indians did not make an official announcement on the Reynolds signing due to the physical, but it is believed he will play 1B and DH with the Tribe.
Free agent outfielder Nick Swisher has not announced his decision on where he will sign, but the Indians also offered him a multiyear contract according to reports.
