(GOODYEAR, Ariz.) – The Indians are continuing to trim their spring training roster as Opening Day nears.
Friday morning the club announced they had optioned 1B/DH Mike McDade to Triple-A Columbus and re-assigned INF Nate Spears to Minor League camp.
McDade, 23, hit .400 in spring camp with 1 HR and 10 RBIs. The former Toronto Blue Jays prospect was not expected to make the club but manager Terry Francona acknowledged they were very happy with what McDade showed them during his time with the club.

Terry Francona and his staff are continuing to make roster cuts.
Spears hit just .125 in 12 games with the Indians in Cactus League exhibition play. Early on in camp Francona confirmed that he told Spears he would not break camp with the big league club.
The Indians open the regular season April 2 in Toronto. The homer opener is slated for April 8 when the Tribe hosts the New York Yankees.
