(GOODYEAR, Ariz.) -- With six days left in spring camp the Cleveland Indians are beginning to trim their roster for Opening Day. On Tuesday morning they continued to do so, with a pair of familiar names.
Indians third baseman Lonnie Chisenhall and first baseman Matt LaPorta were among three players sent down to Triple-A Columbus. Outfielder Chad Huffman was also re-assigned to Minor League camp.
Chisenhall was in a battle with Jack Hannahan for the starting third base job on the club, but after a rough spring camp it was evident he might be sent down. LaPorta, who was competing for a utility job, lost his spot at first base when the Indians signed free agent first baseman Casey Kotchman over the offseason.
Both LaPorta and Chisenhall will start the season at the Indians Triple-A affiliate Columbus.
Hannahan will be the Indians starting third baseman.
