With both their employers struggling to make their margins thanks to massive business taxes and health care costs imposed by the Obama administration, Mom gets laid off, and Dad gets a pay cut.
Mom and Dad sit down to figure out what to do. How can they survive with less income and the same expenses?
Clearly they must cut spending.
Dad looks at Mom and says, "I have no idea how, but I'll sit down with the monthly expenses and see what we can cut out, to make ends meet with our new lower income."
"I have an idea," Mom says. "I'll be back in a couple hours...and I'll show you how we can do this."
"Great!" says Dad. "Can't wait to see what you come up with...because I'm really worried."
Two hours later, Mom comes in with a huge smile. Dad, after 2 hours of pouring over the bills to look for potential places to cut, greets her with a supportive hug.
"What's our solution?" he asks, hopefully.
"Well," Mom begins, "I just charged $150.00 in new clothes for me!"
"What?!?!" dad shouts, picking his jaw off the floor. "How can you spend more money when we just agreed we have to cut our spending?!?!"
"You don't understand!" Mom explains, smiling. "I WAS going to spend $250! But I stopped at $150!"
"What?!?!" Dad screams.
"Yes! Don't you see? I just cut our spending by $100! If we just do the same thing every month, our budget deficit will gone in no time!"

And that, my friends, is how budget problems are solved by the United States federal government.
