Coats for Kids extends its most heartfelt thanks to Matthew P. Figgie and The Figgie Foundation for their exceedingly generous support of our organization in 2013. Because they are the presenting sponsor of the 7th Annual WTAM 1100 Triv’s Vegas Show benefiting Coats for Kids, their substantial contribution allows us to cover all expenses for the Vegas Show. This means that 100% of the proceeds from show ticket sales will go directly to Coats for Kids so we can purchase more warm winter coats for northeast Ohio’s children. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts! Click here to read more about Matthew Figgie and his companies.
Frequently asked questions
What is Coats for Kids?
2013 marks the 32nd anniversary of Coats for Kids - Cleveland, which was started in 1981 by local radio station employees when they realized that a large number of children were missing school in the winter because they did not have warm coats. That November, Coats for Kids - Cleveland was founded and the radio station began soliciting donations of like-new, gently worn coats and cash donations to purchase new coats. Since that initial campaign, more than $3.25 million has been raised and over 500,000 new or like-new coats have been distributed to children (ages 0 - 18) in need throughout northeast Ohio.
How do I get a coat through the Salvation Army?
The Salvation Army of Greater Cleveland distributed winter coats and conducted Christmas registration for families October 23-25, 2013.
Check back next fall for information on coat distribution in 2014.
When is the Campaign?
The official Coats for Kids 2013 campaign began in early November with the activation of collection bins in area malls and other locations. Coat collection will continue until late December 2013.
Goals for the 2013 Campaign
Our goal is to purchase and/or collect at least 25,000 new or like-new coats and raise at least $125,000 in 2013. All coats purchased/collected and funds raised benefit children of school age living in northeast Ohio.
We always appreciate volunteers to help at the Coats for Kids warehouse, but we do not require volunteer support every day.

Thanks for making the 6th Annual Vegas Show Benefiting Coats for Kids a huge success!
The spotlights came up. The band began to play. And so began the 6th Annual Triv’s Vegas Show Benefiting Coats for Kids. The start of the show was a high point in what has become one of Coats for Kids’ most successful years of fundraising to date.
Thanks to the goodwill of so many, more northeast Ohio children in need will have warm coats to wear during the cold winter months.
Coats for Kids is indebted to Mike Trivisonno, WTAM and Clear Channel Cleveland Media & Entertainment for the countless ways they have helped us this year. Compelled by his heart, Triv has lent his voice for northeast Ohio kids and encouraged his loyal listeners to support Coats for Kids. They most definitely and generously have – and we are ever grateful.
We are thankful for Roger Greene and his outstanding staff at the fabulous Hilton Garden Inn in Twinsburg who were the most gracious hosts for two nights of Vegas shows and fabulous dinners (Nov. 16 and 17) and numerous planning meetings leading up to the shows.
Coats for Kids is so appreciative of Peter Zappola and the other tremendously talented members of the ten-piece band Chance. With the utmost professionalism and without compensation, Chance assembled, coordinated and rehearsed with a large ensemble of gifted performers – from singers to musicians to comedians – to customize a performance line-up that was both memorable and enjoyable.
There are a great many other individuals and businesses without whose tireless efforts the Vegas shows would not have been possible. All those involved donated time, service, or items at little or no cost to Coats for Kids. Our organization is humbled by their extensive behind-the-scenes support.
More than a dozen of Cleveland’s top restaurants, Peter & Co. Jewelers, and the Cavaliers, Browns and Indians sponsored the lavish assortment of fantastic raffle prizes available for each night of the Vegas shows.
To all who had a hand in the 6th Annual Triv’s Vegas Show Benefiting Coats for Kids, we say THANK YOU! from the bottom of our hearts.
